2. Website use

You may use our website for lawful personal purposes, including viewing information about The Swan on the River, making bookings and purchasing products or services that we make available online.

You must not misuse the website, attempt to gain unauthorised access to it, introduce malicious software or use its contents for unauthorised commercial purposes.

3. Information, menus and prices

We aim to keep information on our website accurate and up to date, but menus, opening hours, prices, events and availability may change.

Menu items and drinks are subject to availability and we may occasionally need to substitute or remove items.

Prices displayed on our website include VAT where applicable unless stated otherwise.

4. Allergies and dietary requirements

If you or a member of your party has a food allergy, intolerance or other dietary requirement, please tell us when booking where possible and speak to a member of our team before ordering.

Information on our website or menus should not be treated as a substitute for discussing your requirements with our staff.

Our kitchen handles a range of ingredients and allergens. Although we take reasonable precautions, we cannot guarantee that any dish is completely free from traces of a particular allergen.

5. Table bookings

Bookings may be made directly through our website or through a third-party booking provider such as ResDiary.

You must provide accurate information when making a booking, including your contact details and party size.

Your booking is confirmed when you receive confirmation from us or our booking provider.

Please check your confirmation carefully and contact us promptly if anything is incorrect.

6. Deposits and card guarantees

For certain bookings, including larger parties, events or particularly busy periods, we may require:

  • a deposit;
  • advance payment; or
  • payment-card details to guarantee the booking.

Any applicable deposit, cancellation or no-show conditions will be clearly communicated before you confirm the booking.

Unless specifically stated otherwise, any deposit paid will be applied towards your final bill.

7. Cancellations and no-shows

We understand that plans change. If you need to cancel or amend a booking, please give us as much notice as reasonably possible.

Where a particular booking is subject to a cancellation period, non-refundable deposit or no-show charge, this will be clearly disclosed to you before you make the booking.

We will not impose a cancellation or no-show charge unless it formed part of the terms presented when the relevant booking was made.

Nothing in these terms affects any statutory rights you may have.

8. Late arrivals

If you are running late, please contact us.

If you arrive substantially later than your booking time without contacting us, we may not be able to hold your table indefinitely, particularly during busy periods.

We will take reasonable steps to accommodate you where possible.

9. Changes or cancellations by us

Occasionally circumstances outside our reasonable control may require us to change or cancel a booking or event.

If we cancel a booking for which you have made an advance payment directly to us, we will offer an appropriate alternative or refund the amount paid for the service we are unable to provide.

We will not exclude or restrict rights that consumers have under applicable law.

10. Gift vouchers

Gift vouchers may be purchased through our website or an authorised gift-voucher provider.

Any applicable validity period will be clearly stated on the voucher or at the time of purchase.

Unless otherwise stated:

  • vouchers may be used towards eligible food, drink or other services at The Swan on the River;
  • vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash;
  • no cash change will be given, although any unused balance may remain available where the voucher system permits;
  • vouchers must be presented or otherwise validated when redeemed; and
  • we may require reasonable evidence of purchase when dealing with lost, damaged or incorrectly issued vouchers.

Any additional terms applying to a particular voucher or promotion will be displayed before purchase.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights.

11. Online purchases

When you place an order through our website, you are offering to purchase the relevant product or service on the terms displayed to you.

A contract is formed when we accept your order and provide confirmation.

Please check the details of your order before submitting it.

If we cannot fulfil an order after accepting payment, we will refund the relevant amount.

12. Payments

Online payments may be processed on our behalf by a third-party payment provider.

You must be authorised to use the payment method you provide.

Prices and any applicable charges will be shown before you confirm payment.

We take reasonable steps to ensure payments are handled securely, but payment processing may also be subject to the payment provider’s own terms.

13. Refunds

Refund rights depend on what you have purchased and the circumstances of the transaction.

Where you have a statutory right to a refund or cancellation, these terms do not affect that right.

Any additional refund or cancellation policy applying to a particular event, booking, voucher or product will be shown before purchase where relevant.

14. Events and special offers

Events, promotions, packages and special offers may have additional terms, including particular dates, booking requirements, cancellation arrangements and availability restrictions.

These will be communicated before you make the relevant purchase or booking.

15. Age-restricted products

We operate in accordance with UK licensing laws.

You must be aged 18 or over to purchase alcohol. We may require proof of age and reserve the right to refuse the sale or service of alcohol where legally required or where satisfactory identification cannot be provided.

16. Behaviour on our premises

We want The Swan on the River to be a welcoming and safe environment for customers and staff.

We reserve the right to refuse service or ask a customer to leave where reasonably necessary, including in cases of abusive, threatening, dangerous or seriously disruptive behaviour.

This does not affect our obligations under applicable equality and consumer protection law.

17. Third-party services

Our website may integrate with or link to third-party services such as reservation systems, payment providers, maps and social media platforms.

Third parties may have their own terms and privacy policies, which will apply to your use of their services.

18. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the website and its content, including text, photographs, graphics, branding and design, belong to or are licensed to The Swan on the River Limited.

You may use the website for personal, non-commercial purposes but must not reproduce or commercially exploit its contents without permission except where permitted by law.

19. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

If you are a consumer, we are responsible for losses that are a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill.

We are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable or for business losses arising from consumer use of our website or services.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights.

20. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use personal information.

Our website also uses cookies and similar technologies. Information about these is available through our cookie settings.

21. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.

Changes will not retrospectively alter the terms of an existing confirmed booking or purchase unless required by law or agreed with you.

22. Governing law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you retain any mandatory rights available to you under the laws applicable where you live.
